Safari Diving goes GREEN !!
Low Emissions
So now the new boat engine has safely arrived on Lanzarote from the UK. This is for our boat the Astican II. It has low emissions as has our air conditioned Safari Diving vehicles. There is nothing wrong with the old engine but now the boat will operate more effectively and more safely for the enviroment.
We will soon have to take the Astican out of the water to fit the new engine and are hoping to turn this around in just a few days.
Look out on our web for photos and videos recording this moment.

Sperm Whales spotted !
Family of Sperm Whales visit Lanzarote!
A Group of Sperm Whales were recently spotted just off the coast of Lanzarote. A boat of scientists that have been tracking the whales had several days of sightings and then were rewarded with a display of spins, jumps and noises from the whales when they approached the boat. The scientists confirmed that this was the same family of whales that had visited the island in the same spot two years ago!
Did you have sightings of whales, let us know in our guestbook

Spiny Dogfish Shark in Lanzarote
Squalus acanthias
After today's boat dive Joaquin found a dead Dogfish shark. Floating in the harbour of Puerto del Carmen. It always breaks my heart when I see such a amazing animal dead on land. How it did get there is unknown. The dogfish shark is like all the sharks an endangered specie. They are called dogfish because they operate in big shoals (like dog packs). The spiny comes from the two poisonous spines just in front of their dorsal fins.
Would be nice to see a shark like this on our dives.

Dead shark
On beach of Costa Teguise 31/01/2011
This is not a pretty sight, a dead shark on the beach of Costa Teguise. This shark is probably been attacked by another shark somewhere on the middle of the ocean and because of the wind and currents it has been washed up on the beach. It is very very rare that you will encounter a shark like that while you are diving, swimming or snorkelling.

Safari Dog
Health scare with Rosie
At the beginning of the week we had a real scare with Rosie. We arrived home to find our little one, collapsed on the sofa. She would not move and looked really helpless. We tried to help her stand but she really didnt want to.We took her to the emergency vets at 3am who gave her anti-imflammatory drugs and antibiotics and he took a blood test. Next day we visited our local vets who told us she has a muscular problem.
We are now waiting results from a specialist. We hope this is not permanent and that she will be fine.
At the moment she has recovered well and is walking and playing. Although for most of the week she has been very subdued.
Thank you to everyone who is asking after.

Vincent returns to Safari
Vince and family on holiday
Vince and Nikki and their children, Maxwell and Benjamin returned to our sunny island recently. It was nice to see them after them having left the island to start a new life back in Holland (Vince's homeland). We are happy to report they are living a nice life over in Holland and things are working out well for them.Vince was pleased to get back into the water and do some diving, after not having done any since he left Safari Diving. He looks forward to returning again (maybe in September) to have some nice diving with us.
He did however, make a complaint about the wetsuit sizes being too small! Yes Vince, we did notice you had put on a few kilos since you stopped working at Safari ! ha ha. Nothing wrong with the wetsuits aye!
We all forward to when we see the Timp family again!!
Best wishes from the Safari Team !
